guilin, nanning, shanghai, in 5 pictures

Just for you, John.

Cycling through the rice paddies in Guilin was
definitely a highlight.

On occasion of the intense midday sun, I wanted
to go for a swim in this stream. Probably wasn't
very sanitary.

Delicious fried dough with a spicy sauce. Food
was the only good thing about Changsha.

Our train from Changsha to Shanghai. On the
straight stretches between towns we cruised at
200 kmph. 1200km in just 10 hours.

Shanghai's skyline is alright, I guess.

I agree(the skyline)! Can you translate the 200kmph into mph...actually to prove I still have a brain after the stumping cryptic symbols in your most recent post. 200kmph=124mph. I feel better now.

Here's a description of the Shanghai skyline from the most recent issue of the New Yorker: "The assorted finials on the tops of skyscrapers will make you think of a bottle opener, a Jell-O mold, a crown roast, a bamboo steamer, a chuppah, a Mobius strip, a snake that's swallowed some golf balls, the Eiffel Tower, Lady Liberty's headpiece, and the spiny back of a stegosaurus. . . . You can see everything better after dusk, when the lunatic neon is turned on."

Is this the same New Yorker picturing the satirical images of "Muslim" Obama with "Afro" wife Michelle doing a fist pump while burning the American flag (I don't know what the big deal is all about).

I like the doughy goodness (I like the people pictures most)
